# Knowledge bases (/en/docs/developers/knowledge)



Knowledge bases split file content into searchable chunks. Find relevant passages using meaning, keywords and file attributes for question answering, policy lookup and model context.

| Service   | What it stores and finds                                         |
| --------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Files     | Upload, store and download original files; obtain file IDs       |
| Media     | Organize assets, folders and tags, and find media such as images |
| Knowledge | Find relevant text passages with their source file and content   |

A source file can belong to multiple knowledge bases. Removing it from a knowledge base does not delete the original. Deleting the original removes it from every knowledge base automatically, and it stops appearing in search results.
